What is the lifespan of uPVC windows?

uPVC windows typically last 20 to 30 years, and well-made frames that are fitted properly often reach the top of that range. The sealed glass units tend to fail before the frame does, usually showing as misting between the panes.

What shortens the life of uPVC windows?

  • Thin-walled, low-grade profiles that flex and discolour
  • Poor installation, such as unsupported glass or badly packed frames
  • Worn hinges, handles and locks that are never adjusted or lubricated
  • Failed seals letting moisture into the sealed unit

How do you know the windows are near the end?

Look for condensation trapped between the panes, persistent draughts, handles that stick or do not lock, and frames that are warped, cracked or badly yellowed.

Can parts of a uPVC window be replaced?

Yes. Hardware, gaskets and sealed units can be replaced separately, so a sound frame with misted glass does not always need full replacement. If the frames themselves are failing, new uPVC windows are the better route. Wednesfield Trade Windows is a family-run firm fitting TruFrame windows, and as a Certass registered installer it certifies each job against the Building Regulations.

Does a guarantee show how long windows will last?

A guarantee covers defects for a set period, commonly 10 years, rather than predicting lifespan. Check what it covers, including frames, sealed units and hardware, and whether it is insurance-backed.
