How can you tell good quality uPVC windows?

Check five things: a Class A profile under BS EN 12608, a Window Energy Rating of A or better, PAS 24 security testing, neat welds with smooth hardware, and a written guarantee from a Certass or FENSA registered installer. Price alone is not a reliable guide.

How can you judge quality in person?

  • Corners should be cleanly welded with no gaps
  • Sashes should close without forcing and sit evenly in the frame
  • Handles and locks should feel firm, not loose
  • Glass should be clear with no misting between panes

What should the paperwork show?

A Building Regulations certificate, the profile and glass specification, and a written guarantee that says who stands behind it and for how long.

Is a more expensive window always better?

No. Compare like for like on the profile, glazing, hardware and guarantee. See our uPVC windows. Wednesfield Trade Windows is a family-run firm fitting TruFrame windows, and as a Certass registered installer it certifies each job against the Building Regulations.

What are the red flags when choosing an installer?

  • Vague specifications or refusal to name the profile system
  • No Building Regulations certificate or competent person registration
  • No written guarantee, or one that excludes the glass
  • Pressure to sign on the day
