What are the disadvantages of uPVC doors?

The main disadvantages of uPVC doors are a lighter, less substantial feel than composite or aluminium, a narrower choice of finishes, and few repair options once the surface is damaged. Their hollow-panelled construction also means security depends mostly on the lock and frame.

Are uPVC doors less secure?

Security depends on the multipoint lock, the cylinder and the frame reinforcement rather than the plastic. An anti-snap cylinder and a door tested to PAS 24 are both available on uPVC, but a basic specification may include neither.

Do uPVC doors look cheap?

Plain white panels can look basic. Foil finishes, glazed designs and good hardware improve the look, but the grain is shallower than on a moulded composite skin.

Can a damaged uPVC door be repaired or repainted?

  • Light scratches can often be polished out
  • Hardware, seals and glass units are all replaceable
  • Deep damage usually means a new door leaf
  • Respraying is a specialist job, not a standard repair

Do the benefits outweigh these drawbacks?

For most homes, yes: low maintenance, good insulation when double glazed and a lower upfront cost than most alternatives. If maximum strength or a deep grained finish matters more, compare a composite door. Our uPVC doors are a sensible fit where value and low upkeep come first.
