Can you just replace a uPVC door?

Yes, a uPVC door can be replaced on its own, but it only makes sense when the existing frame is sound, square and the right size. A new door leaf has to match the frame’s profile and rebate, so many installers fit a complete new doorset instead.

When does replacing just the door work?

  • The frame is undamaged and not bowed
  • Both diagonals of the opening match within a few millimetres
  • The hinges and keeps are in good order
  • The fault is in the door leaf, not the frame or seals

When should the frame be replaced too?

  • Corners are cracked or split
  • The frame is out of square
  • Draughts or leaks cannot be traced
  • The door keeps dropping after hinge adjustment
  • You want a different style, colour or amount of glass

Does a replacement door need Building Regulations sign-off?

Yes. In England a replacement external door must meet the energy limits in Approved Document L, with a U-value of around 1.4 W/m²K, and be signed off by a competent person scheme or the council. Wednesfield Trade Windows is Certass registered, so we can certify a new uPVC door.
