What are the most common problems with composite doors?

The most common composite door problems are dropped hinges that make the door catch, stiff or misaligned multipoint locks, worn weather seals causing draughts, colour fade on dark finishes, and failed glazing units that mist up. Most are adjustments or part replacements, and a correct installation prevents many of them.

What goes wrong most often?

  • Dropped or loose hinges: the door rubs or the lock will not engage
  • Stiff multipoint lock or handle: usually misalignment or lack of lubrication
  • Draughts and water ingress: worn or poorly seated seals
  • Misted double glazing: a failed edge seal in the glazed panel
  • Fading or movement on dark doors in strong sun

Can these composite door problems be fixed?

Yes. Hinge and keep adjustment, new seals, a lock gearbox or a replacement glazed unit are routine repairs. Rarely, a door that has warped badly enough needs replacing under guarantee.

How do you avoid composite door problems?

Have the door fitted square and level, lubricate the hardware once a year, and choose a reinforced core and a guarantee that names warping and fading.
